Pursuit leads to arrest in E.C.

January 29, 2002|STAFF REPORT

El Centro police, responding to a call of a son who reportedly assaulted his mother Monday, became involved in a vehicle pursuit as the youth fled from officers through residential streets.

Police responded to the call at 1:30 p.m. in an apartment complex at 955 N. Waterman Ave.

When officers arrived with their vehicle lights flashing, the 17-year-old drove off in his car, leading officers on a short pursuit during which speeds reached about 60 mph.

The youth, whose identity was not released, stopped on his own at the corner of Waterman and Scott avenues and his vehicle was surrounded by two police units.

When officers attempted to take the teen into custody, he shoved an officer, said police Lt. Tim Blankenship, who added the youth was then subdued and arrested.
