SEELEY — A traffic accident on Interstate 8 east of this community this morning led to an arrest of a man for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle and possessing illegal drugs.

The man, a 22-year-old El Centro resident whose name was unavailable, was driving a pickup on the interstate when he lost control of the truck east of Jeffrey Road just before 5 a.m.

A California Highway Patrol unit was 1,000 feet behind the man when the accident occurred, and, when the officer stopped, he saw the driver exiting the vehicle.

The officer determined the pickup had been reported stolen in San Diego. The driver was taken into custody for being in possession of a reportedly stolen vehicle.

While checking the vehicle officers discovered 40 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana and three scales.

The investigation on the drug possession was turned over to the county Narcotic Task Force.

The man was booked into county jail on counts related to the stolen vehicle and the drug possession.

Information on his bail was unavailable.
