COSTA MESA — Maria Hansen-Perez struck out nine and allowed nine hits as Imperial Valley College's softball team edged host Orange Coast College 6-5 Thursday.

Jenny Ramirez went two-for-three and Mercedes Gonzalez smacked a double and drove in a run.

The Arabs (2-3) play at 9 a.m. Saturday in the College of the Desert Tournament in Palm Desert.

Boys soccer

Central 3, Palo Verde 0

BLYTHE — Francisco Espinoza and Salim Ruiz both scored a goal as Central Union High's boys soccer team shut out host Palo Verde High on Thursday 3-0.

Palo Verde scored the third goal for the Spartans.

Central (6-10-4 overall, 3-3-1 Imperial Valley League) plays next at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8 in Holtville.

Southwest 42, Central 36

Brawley Union High's wrestling team locked up its eighth straight Imperial Valley League championship with a pair of wins Thursday.

The Wildcats dumped host Southwest High 49-13 and clawed Central Union High 70-9. Host team Southwest got past Central 42-36.

The next meet for all three is the Helix tournament Saturday.

BMX results

SEELEY — Cesar Silva won one event and placed second in another during Imperial Valley BMX racing in Seeley on Saturday night.

Silva won the 10-year-old cruiser race and was runner-up in the 10 expert class.

Racing resumes Saturday, with sign-ups from 5-6 p.m. Practice sessions are from 7-8 p.m. Thursdays.
