February 04, 2002

Government Agencies Federal Credit Union recently announced the opening of

its commercial/Small Business Administration lending department, managed by Harold Walk, GAFCU assistant vice

president of commercial lending.

The commercial lending department offers business loans for all needs, including working capital, equipment and commercial real estate. Real

estate finance includes retail, warehousing, industrial, motels/hotels and apartments.

The new lending department also offers construction financing. Through U.S. Small Business Administration and USDA loan programs, GAFCU can offer up to 80 percent to 90 percent financing on certain owner-occupied and investor

real estate.

Due to GAFCU's large asset base, it is in a position to grant all sizes of loans.

"GAFCU now offers very competitive commercial financing to help Imperial Valley businesses achieve their goals," said Walk.

"Additionally we offer low-cost business checking account services, which includes online banking at no additional charge. The best part is that any

resident or business operating in Imperial County is eligible to be a member of GAFCU, making them eligible for all the benefits offered."

Walk was born and raised in Imperial Valley, growing up on a farm in the Northend. He attended Calipatria elementary and high schools, graduated

from Imperial Valley College with an associate's degree in agricultural business

management and has a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from Cal Poly, Pomona.

Walk has over 20 years of commercial lending experience and was previously employed by CDC Small Business Finance. He is an El Centro planning commissioner, president of the board of the I.V. Gymnastics Club, president of the board of the Cal Poly, Pomona Alumni Association, member of the Imperial County mental health board, advisory board member of the Imperial Valley Small Business Development Center and loan review committee member of Imperial County Community and Economic Development (formerly VIDA).
