February 04, 2002|STAFF REPORT

WINTERHAVEN — Imperial County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a reported rape here Saturday.

Deputy William Rex Jernigan said Ty Tecumseh, 25, of Winterhaven was arrested for allegedly raping his off-and-on-again girlfriend.

Jernigan said the woman, whose name was not released, alleged Tecumseh raped and beat her in her residence Saturday morning. She told deputies she and Tecumseh engaged in a verbal argument about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The argument led to the alleged rape.

Jernigan said Tecumseh and the victim have two children together but the children were not present during the incident.

He added the couple have had a rocky relationship for about six years.

After the alleged assault ended about 6:30 a.m., the woman went to the home of a relative, who took her to the hospital.

Tecumseh was arrested a little before 6 p.m. Saturday at the victim's residence. Jernigan said he was going back to the victim's residence to collect evidence when he spotted Tecumseh and apprehended him.

Jernigan said Tecumseh denied the allegations and cooperated with a sexual assault rape test, which is a comparison of DNA samples.

Jernigan said it will take about two weeks to get the results.

Tecumseh was in the county jail today with bail set at $50,000.
