Westmorland council decision on property purchase likely

February 05, 2002|By MARIO RENTERIA, Staff Writer

WESTMORLAND — The City Council here, sitting as the city Redevelopment Agency board, will take action on a resolution to authorize the purchase of property for a proposed residential drug and alcohol treatment facility for women.

The RDA meeting will be at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday before the regular City Council meeting at 7 p.m.

The property, owned by Brawley resident Steve Dickerson, has been sought by the RDA as the site for the proposed treatment facility.

The project has been in the works for several months and was delayed a bit by the September terrorist attacks but seems to be getting into full swing.

Once the RDA acquires the property it would be sold to Alternative Counseling Center, Inc. for $1 as an incentive to develop and operate the facility.

The property is on the southwest corner of Highway 86 and G Street.
