Two injured in collision at intersection

Two people were injured and taken to hospitals after their vehicles collided at the intersection of Barbara Worth and Heber roads Monday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Hiro Takehisa, 32, of El Centro was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center with major injuries after he drove a car into the path of a pickup driven by Charon May, 28, of Imperial.

May was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley with moderate injuries.

Takehisa was driving south on Barbara Worth Road and stopped at the stop sign at Barbara Worth and Heber roads. May was driving about 55-60 mph on westbound Heber road, documents from the CHP state.

There is no stop sign on Heber Road at the intersection.

Takehisa drove into the path of May's pickup and his car was struck broadside, according to the CHP. Both men were alone in their vehicles.


Takehisa is in stable condition at ECRMC, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

No information was available this morning from Pioneers regarding the condition of May.
