Four arrested by Calexico police investigating vehicle assault allegation

CALEXICO — Police arrested a 37-year-old man for assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly tried to run over another man with a vehicle.

Calexico police Sgt. Jim Neujahr said police were told by the mother of Ruben Palomino Martinez that Raul Padilla Agundez wanted to kill her son.

Martinez told police Agundez tried to run him over with a vehicle Thursday. He added days before Agundez brandished a gun at him.

Police went to Agundez's residence and found him with three other individuals.

Agundez and the other three exited the residence and were arrested. Police found numerous bindles of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Agundez's pocket.


Police obtained a search warrant and searched Agundez's residence. Inside police found more drug paraphernalia and narcotics.

The other three individuals, Mark Anthony Jimenez of El Centro, Roxanne Sanchez of El Centro and Ricardo Albert Arce of Holtville, also were arrested. Their ages were not available.

Sanchez and Jimenez were arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Arce was arrested for a warrant.

Agundez was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, threats on a person, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Agundez was being held at county jail today with bail set at $20,000. Arce was in the jail today with his bail set at $3,500.

Information on the custody status of the other two arrestees was unavailable this morning.
