DUI alleged

The California Highway Patrol arrested a man for driving under the influence after his sport-utility vehicle overturned while speeding Thursday.

A press release from the CHP states Jerard Adams, 27, of Atlanta, stationed at Naval Air Facility El Centro, was arrested after his SUV overturned on Huff Road near Hetzel Road west of El Centro.

According to the press release, Adams was driving a SUV on Huff Road north of Hetzel Road at a high rate of speed sometime around 7:35 a.m. He failed to negotiate a curve that has a recommended speed of 35 mph.

His vehicle ran off the east edge of the road and onto the right dirt shoulder. He turned the wheels hard to the left and the vehicle skidded across the northbound lane into the southbound lane, across the east dirt shoulder and then overturned in an open alfalfa field.

Adams was wearing his seat belt. He sustained minor injuries that were treated at El Centro Regional Medical Center. Adams was arrested at the hospital for misdemeanor DUI. He was cited and released.
