Gonzalez leads IVDA at 12-and-under meet

Brawley's Mercedes Gonzales won one event and placed second in another for Imperial Valley Desert Aquatics at the Coronado Navy Swim Association's 12 & Under A/B/C meet.

Gonzales won the age 8 and under girls' C division 50-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 5.42 seconds. She was second in the 100 individual medley, clocking 2:05.99. For more results, see Scoreboard.

Brawley Gladiators

Four Brawley Gladiators won their respective weight classes at a wrestling tournament in Ramona over the weekend. Claiming top honors were Peter Martinez (rookie class, 45 pounds), Vincent Elizalde (bantam, 40), Chris Mendoza (novice, 65) and Paul Villagran (novice, 85).

Desert Seniors Golf Tourney

Roger Gross was the low gross champion of the El Centro Sol de Oro Lions Club third annual Desert Seniors Golf Tournament, shooting a 69. Ralph Boline was low net champ with a 55. For more results, see Scoreboard.


BMX racing

Royce Culp won two events Saturday competing in the Imperial Valley BMX Association's weekly outing in Seeley. Culp won the 12-year-old cruiser class and the 12-year- old expert division.

Racing continues at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sunbeam Lake track. Practices are from 7-8 p.m. Thursday. For more results, see Scoreboard.
