Getting ready for Mardi Gras

CALEXICO — Revelers from all over the Imperial Valley will be shaking their tail-feathers Friday at a Mardi Gras-themed party at the Hotel De Anza.

"Mardi Gras 2002: A Beer Tasting Xperience" is sponsored by the Calexico Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is asking for a $25 donation at the door.

Chamber president Libby Peraza said, "All the monies raised will be put back into the community."

For their donation, Fat Friday reveleres will receive beads, masks, door prizes and all the beer they can taste, according to Joe Moreno, the chamber's special events chairman and manager of Apple Market Super Shopping.

Music will be provided by Galaxy D.J., local restaurants will be serving food samples and Alford Distributing and Claypool Distributing will be providing the spirits.

The big question: "Will women be topless? I hope so …" Moreno said laughing.

"Seriously though, I doubt it — but there could be some skin," he added.

Chamber Executive Director Hildy Carrillo-Rivera is looking to score some beads but she won't be on a "Girls Gone Wild" video anytime soon, "I might show ‘em a shoulder."
