Brawley boys hoops takes top seed

The CIF San Diego Section announced its winter sports playoff bracketing Saturday and 22 Imperial Valley teams in boys and girls basketball and boys and girls soccer will be represented in the post season.

Leading the Valley's pack will be the Brawley Union High boys basketball team, which earned the top seed in the section's Division III. Brawley will have a first-round bye and will host a game at 7 p.m. Friday.

Brawley will play the winner between Crawford High School and Southwest High School, a game that will be played at Southwest in El Centro at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In Division IV of boys basketball, Calipatria High also earned a first-round bye and will play at Lincoln High School at 7 p.m. Friday. Imperial High will host Francis Parker at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Holtville will play at Mountain Empire at 7 p.m. Tuesday.


The Vincent Memorial High boys basketball team will host Calvary Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of Division V action.

In girls basketball action, Calexico will play at Serra High School in Division II competition at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Brawley Union High will have a first-round bye, then will play at Mission Bay at 7 p.m. Saturday in Division III action. In the other Division III game, Southwest will play at San Dieguito at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In Division IV in girls basketball, all three Valley teams made the post season, led by Holtville, which earned a first-round bye and will host Francis Parker at 7 p.m. Saturday at Imperial Valley College. Calipatria High also got a first-round bye and will play at Mountain Empire at 7 p.m. Saturday. Imperial will host Marian Catholic at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In Division V, the Vincent Memorial girls basketball team will host Tri-City Christian at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In boys soccer, every Valley team made the playoffs, led by Southwest in Division III earning the No. 4 seed and a first-round home game against University City at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Also in Division III, Central Union High will play at Coronado at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Brawley will play at St. Augustine at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

In Division II, Calexico will play at Castle Park at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Holtville will host Army-Navy at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Division IV action and Imperial will play at Calvin Christian at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

In girls soccer, Central leads the list of local teams as it hosts Serra High at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Southwest will host University City at 5:30 p.m. also on Tuesday. Both are Division III contests.

In Division IV action, the Imperial High girls soccer team will play at La Jolla Country Day at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
