This is in response to Mr. Woeten's ignorant words about special needs children. First of all, you, along with many other people need to be educated about "special needs children." I am a mother of a 12-year-girl who was born with spina bifida, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other disabilities that don't allow her to walk, talk, read or do "normal" things like a "normal" child.
By your assumption and ignorance these children's parents are labeled "druggies" So how can an educator of many years take it upon himself to remotely suggest that special needs children are "drug babies." Even "drug babies" have special needs. These babies did not ask to take drugs. These babies were not given a choice in how to start their lives and these babies should not be an embarrassment to our society, much less labeled.
To us parents with such special needs children, it is a privilege to care for and love one of God's most precious gifts. I hope the following poem makes you realize that we are all God's children and no matter how one is born, we should just love them and care for them as if they were just "normal."
