Voice: farmers could provide low-income housing for farm workers

February 19, 2002

"The farmers bring much to the area." One very significant thing that I would like to see farmers/growers bring to this area is low-income apartments and houses for farm workers. Then we would be closer to being a "Valley of Fairness."

This will afford farm workers to spend more time with their family; instead of hours waiting in line to cross from and to Mexicali. Also with more sleep, they will produce more for their employer and have fewer accidents.

I even know where these dwellings can be built, on the unused arid lands located between Highway 111 and Dogwood Road and between Worthington Road and Keystone Road. We could name it, ummm, Chavez City!

Imagine all the business and jobs that will be stimulated for everyone.

But then, building condos on the coast is more profitable. Of course this will mean more Mexican voters. Oops, never mind, wrong idea, my bad!
