Voice: Acuña would be a good choice for Valley working people

February 19, 2002

The working people of the Imperial Valley have long been neglected by the politicians in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.. Republicans have dominated Valley politics because they were elected by majorities in Riverside and San Diego counties, therefore only the elite and wealthy had any representation.

The Democratic-controlled Assembly has redrawn the lines and we have a Latino and Democratic majority. Now we must pick the candidate that will have the best chance of beating the Republicans in November. That candidate is Joey Acuña He has been endorsed by the Central Labor Council AFL-CIO and Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante. Mr. Acuña has the support of the Democratic leadership in Sacramento, which will be essential in defeating the Republican nominee.

I urge you to think about the importance of electing the most viable candidate. This is not a popularity contest or the one with the most signs wins. We must have Democratic leadership in order to provide the working people of the Imperial Valley what they deserve. Representation!
