Interested downtown El Centro business owners are invited to attend a public workshop on the possibility of establishing a business improvement district for the downtown area.
The workshop will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Cafe on Main, 510 Main St.
Oscar Rodriquez, city of El Centro director of economic development, said the purpose of the meeting is to remind people of what functions are allowed under a BID and to gauge public interest.
A San Diego consultant who has been working with the city on the downtown revitalization efforts will be on hand to explain the issue.
Moneys raised through a BID may be spent on sidewalk sweeping, tree maintenance, graffiti removal, security, parking, economic development, advocacy, marketing and promotion, banners and tourism. They cannot be spent on capital improvements.
