The El Centro City Council, sitting as the Redevelopment Agency board, on Wednesday approved three bids for downtown parking lot upgrades as part of the ongoing revitalization efforts.

The contracts are to El Centro-based Granite Construction for $203,488.25 for the asphalt overlay or seal coat for parking lots two, three, five, seven and 10; Holtville-based Sun Landscape Inc. for $57,821.60 for the landscaping of lots two, three, four, five and eight; and to DEZ Construction for $60,973.61 for two shade structures each on lots two and five.

The City Council:

· approved efforts to clean up a city-owned lot near Imperial Valley College for use as a regional public safety training facility. Officials from the other cities will be asked to participate. It was reported that IVC officials have submitted a $150,000 state grant request to build part of the facility.

· approved seeking a $200,000 state grant to remove tires from throughout the county.
