Niland man shot during argument

NILAND — Sheriff's deputies arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder here Saturday for allegedly shooting another man in the leg during an argument.

Sheriff's Deputy Manuel De Leon said Luther Lonnie Abbott, 59, of Niland was arrested at 5:20 p.m. Saturday after a 57-year-old man was shot in the leg near the Slabs area.

The victim's name was not available for release.

De Leon said witnesses told deputies the two men were arguing when Abbott allegedly took a shotgun from his vehicle and shot the victim in the leg.

The victim was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital and flown to a San Diego hospital. His condition was not available as of presstime this morning.

Abbott is being held at county jail with bail set at $100,000.
