BRAWLEY — Police here arrested a man on suspicion of setting a fire in his home early Sunday while there were two children inside the residence.
Brawley resident Ruben Tapia Rios, 26, was booked into the county jail on $35,000 bail on counts of arson and willful cruelty to children. He remained in custody this morning.
Police Lt. John Myers said Rios was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Sunday after threatening to set the house on fire because his girlfriend would not give him any money.
While he did set a calendar on fire, there was no other damage to the house.
Both children inside the residence were under age 3. Police were unsure this morning whether Rios is related to the children.
