CALEXICO — Two men were stabbed early Sunday after their car was rammed by another car in the 200 block of Lopez Court, police officials said this morning.

The men, Ricardo Gomez, 18, and Steve Ibarra, 21, both of Calexico, told police they were driving around the area about 1 a.m. when they noticed they were being followed by a white sedan, Lt. Jim Neujahr said.

The men turned another direction, but the sedan followed them and rammed into their car, they told police. Five men got out of the white car and chased Ibarra and Gomez, Neujahr said.

He said Ibarra was hit in the head with a crow bar and stabbed in the back. Gomez was stabbed in the abdomen.

Gomez and Ibarra drove themselves to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Neujahr said their wounds were not life-threatening.

A spokeswoman at El Centro Regional Center said Gomez and Ibarra were treated and released.

Neujahr said he did not know if the stabbing was gang-related.

No arrests had been made by this morning. The incident remains under investigation, he said.
