Voice: Off-road groupmsupports Carter

February 27, 2002

Dear Sheriff Carter,

Imperial County is a unique California county.

Imperial County is unique in many respects. It is on international border with three ports of entry which 35 million people pass through annually, is one of the most productive agricultural areas in the entire world, the most popular off-road vehicle area in the nation and a vast area of over 4,500 square miles (one of the largest counties in the state) with seven incorporated areas, among many other things. All call attention to the fact that Imperial County is, indeed, a diverse and distinctive California county.

This diversity and uniqueness bring special law enforcement challenges to the people of Imperial County. Ensuring public safety in this vast and diverse area requires highly trained and dedicated law enforcement professionals.

Recently we were fortunate to witness the dedication, training and professionalism of the Imperial County Sheriff's Office. During the Presidents Day holiday your deputies responded to a unique situation at the Imperial San Dunes Recreational Area in a manner that is a restatement to your outstanding leadership, law enforcement and administrative skills.

The American Sand Association, with a membership of over 18,000 sand dune enthusiasts, recognizes your ability to meet the law enforcement challenges of Imperial County and enthusiastically support your re-election as sheriff of Imperial County.
