COACHELLA — Central Union High's boys track and field team opened its season Thursday by wining a three-way meet at Coachella Valley High. The Spartans scored 81 points to the host Arabs' 71 while Desert Christian brought up the rear with four points.
J.D. Gaddis won the 300-meter low hurdles with a personal best time of 41.92 seconds. He also won the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.91.
Anthony Hellum also won two individual events. He won the 100-meter dash with an 11.07 and won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Hellum ran on Central's victorious 4x100-meter relay team. Hellum, Anthony Sabol, Jarrell Henderson and Eric Henderson clocked 44.76.
Oscar Garcia won the discus, Christian Garcia won the shot put with a mark of 41-1, and Jarrell Henderson won the high jump at 6-4.
