Pine School announces students of the year

HOLTVILLE — Pine School Principal Cathy Denton announced the Pine School students of the year Feb. 21 at the Holtville Unified School District board meeting. The students were nominated by their teachers.

Kindergarten student Claire Rapp, the daughter of William Rapp, was nominated by her teacher, Ellen Underwood. First-grade student Austin Zendejas, the son of Arcy and Deborah Zendejas, was nominated by his teacher, Selma Offe.

Josue Lara, the second-grade student nominated, is the son of Gerado and Norma Lara. His teacher is Gina Wright. Haley Dowsey, the third-grade student, is the daughter of Floyd and Mary Dowsey. Her teacher is Tiffany Terrill.

Fourth-grader Cassandra Acosta is the daughter of Ruben and Betty Acosta. Her teacher is JoAnn Rojas. Caroline Antchagno is the fifth-grade student nominated. Her parents are Dominque and Maricela Antchagno, and her teacher is Debra Fargo.

Sixth-grader Erica Samaniego is the daughter of Pamela Kennedy and Luis Samaniego. Her teacher is Norma Lara. Chelsea Hansen, the seventh-grader, is the daughter of Vincent and Julie Hansen. Her teacher is Summer Heraz.

Eighth-grade student Alejandra Puentes is the daughter of Jose and Maria Puentes. Her teacher is Deborah Thornburg. Ross Zinn, the son of David and Linda Zinn, was nominated by his teacher Lance Sharp.

As each student stepped forward, Denton read a brief statement listing the qualities that got each nominated as a student of the year. The students were presented with certificates by school board trustees George Morris, Cliff Strahm, Joan Thornburg, Paula Daniels and Marv Wood.
