Just in case you're left a little puzzled Thursday by the sight of some eight "whales" cruising down Imperial Avenue around the noon hour — it's OK, they're definitely street legal.
They're actually Volkswagen Beetles painted over to resemble black and white killer whales, complete with tails and dorsal fins, and they're part of SeaWorld San Diego's Shamu 2 U tour.
The tour will be in town to visit Ben Hulse Elementary school Thursday in Imperial as part of its 30-school, month-long tour through the western United States and Mexico. After stopping off at Ben Hulse for the morning, the team will head to Mexicali to visit local schools there.
The tour was organized to mark 30 years of educational programs at SeaWorld in San Diego.
