Voice: Keep current IID directors

they are protecting us

March 05, 2002

I live in Ocotillo and pay for Imperial Irrigation District electricity but not water We are beyond the reach of public canals out here, so we have our own water districts or private wells. There is one serious drawback to this arrangement. We cannot vote for IID directors.

Despite that drawback, others have chosen wisely and we have an excellent board looking out for the full interests of Imperial County. We have the best and cheapest electric service in California, and San Diego/Los Angeles have not stolen our water and turned the "Valley" back to the natural scene our pioneers faced in 1900.

That goal is metropolitan policy, by the way, that a member of San Diego County Planning Commission related to me. "All we want is one drop of your allotted water. That is our precedent. From then on it's simply a matter of time until we get the rest. We do not need you." That is a direct quote.

My friendly confidante is no longer with the board, but the policy is. Without water, Imperial Valley is dead. We out here trust the voters to do right. Keep our current board working for all of us.
