CALEXICO — Voters here didn't approve either of the measures placed on Tuesday's ballot, as both big money Measure B and quiet little Measure C went down to defeat.

"No on Measure C" received 2,338 votes, or 64.46 percent. "Yes on Measure C" received 1,289 votes, 35.54 percent.

Measure C was placed on Tuesday's ballot by the City Council.

A "yes" vote would have raised the transient occupancy tax in the city from 10 percent to 11 percent for lodgers at local hotels and motels.

Rodolfo Alexanderson, front desk clerk at the Best Western John Jay Inn on Scaroni Road in Calexico, said, "(Voters) probably did not want to have higher prices on the rates."
