‘Myra's Salsa' is a winner during fair's one-day cooking contest

IMPERIAL — Myra Nixon of El Centro won Tuesday's "favorite chips and salsa" one-day contest at the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta.

Her award-winning salsa was titled, appropriately, "Myra's Salsa."

Mona Locher of El Centro took second place with "Cucumber Salsa & Lime Chips."

Third place was awarded to Dianna Randolph of El Centro for her "Salsa with a Twist."

The one-day contests are being staged each day of the fair, which continues through Sunday. To enter, all contestants have to do is appear with their entry and the recipe at the fair's main gate by entry deadline each day.

Contest entry deadlines are at 6 tonight through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The contests are in the Lifestyles Building.

Prizes are: first place, $50; second place, $25; and third place, $15. Each contestant will receive free entry to the fair the day of the contest.

Contests for the remainder of the fair include — favorite cheesecake at 6 tonight; favorite breakfast dish at 6 p.m. Thursday; Imperial Valley salad at 6 p.m. Friday; favorite crock pot dish at 6 p.m. Saturday; and favorite bar cookies at 2 p.m. Sunday.
