Polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Imperial County but four hours later, only 101 of 142 county voting precincts had reported in to the county Elections Department.

Precincts in Calexico and Brawley, and a misplaced precinct box from El Centro, were the things accounted for in the election.

Precinct 345201 at McKinley Elementary School at 1177 N. 8th St., in El Centro reported to the Registrar of Voters office at 12:06 a.m.

McKinley is less than a mile from the County Administration Center, where the votes were being counted.

County Registrar of Voters Dolores Provencio said there were a lot of new polling place workers for this election.

"I can't fault them. They're doing their best," she said.

"The poll workers have to physically count all ballots and make sure that number matches with the number of ballots given out," Provencio said.

She said poll workers at McKinley were balancing ballots all that time.
