Eagle girls take third at Yuma meet

YUMA — The Southwest High girls track and field team took third place at the Yuma Invitational here Saturday.

The Southwest girls finished with 75 points, behind Yuma with 109 and Cibola of Yuma with 86.

The Eagle boys finished tied for seventh with 15 points. Cibola took first with 127 points.

Roshanna Amos led the Southwest girls, winning the 200 meters in 25.59 seconds.

Tasha Ernest, Angie Navarro, Erica Holmes and Monica Gamboa teamed to win the 4x400 meter relay in 4 minutes, 32 seconds.

Amos took second in the 100 meters (11.97) and teamed with Gamboa, Ernest and Holmes to place second in the 4x100 in 52.05.


Also taking second were Gamboa in the 400 meters in 1:04.5 and Jennifer Black in the 100-meter hurdles (16.72) and the 300-meter hurdles in 50.97.

Taking third place for the Eagles was Monica Gamboa in the 800 meters in 2:39.

Leading the Southwest boys was Terrance Johnson, who took third in the 100 in 11.16.

Luis Alvarado, Jaime Mendez, Antonio Correa and Jeremie Adams took fourth in the 4x800 in 10:10.
