The California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission will meet in El Centro on Thursday to discuss and approve grant requests for off-road recreational use in the state.

The commission provides grants to local agencies and works with federal agencies such as the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service to provide off-road recreation in California.

This year BLM's El Centro office received just over $1 million from the commission. The Imperial County Sheriff's Office also received $500,000 in grants for law enforcement at the Imperial Sand Dunes.

On Friday the commission will tour the Imperial Sand Dunes and attend the dedication of the Herman Schneider Bridge.
