Calexico council rejoins IVEDC

March 14, 2002|STAFF REPORT

CALEXICO — The City Council here, seated as the Redevelopment Agency board, re-upped with the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corp.

The non-profit, private sector corporation works to spark economic development in the Imperial Valley.

The board decided to pay the IVEDC $10,000 without waiting to discuss the issue in upcoming budget sessions.

For that money, the city will get a seat on the IVEDC board of directors and featured placement in promotional materials that are sent all over the world.

IVEDC Executive Director Louis Fuentes presented a CD-ROM slideshow to the board recently that explained how the board's past contribution had been spent and what the corporation would be working on in the future.

City Manager Richard Inman said the board could table the matter and discuss the expenditure in the budget process.

Mayor Victor Carrillo moved to support the IVEDC again without waiting.

The vote in favor of his motion was unanimous.

Carrillo then appointed City Councilman Gilbert Grijalva as the city's representative on the IVEDC board. He was the city's rep last year as well.
