GLAMIS — A 40-year-old San Diego man died while riding a motorcycle off-road in the Gecko Park area near here.

A press release from the California Highway Patrol stated the man was riding a dirt bike in the sand dunes when he jumped the bike and landed in a "witch's eye" and suffered fatal injuries.

The press release stated a witch's eye, also known as a bowl, is a large hole formed by wind. The hole was 90 feet across and 30 feet deep.

Imperial County Coroner Investigator Rick Macken said the man's identity could not released this morning because authorities had not been able to contact next of kin.

Macken said the injuries the man received were either neck or chest trauma.

He said investigators will perform an autopsy Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
