BLYTHE — The Southwest High golf team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 160-173 victory over Palo Verde here Monday.

Leading Southwest was Tyler Douthitt with a 38, followed by Ty Yturralde with a 39, Trevor Tagg with a 41 and Bobby Kirby with a 42.

The Eagles kick off Imperial Valley League play at 1 p.m. Wednesday as they compete in the first league meet of the season in Blythe.


Central 318, Eastlake 341

SAN DIEGO — Ivan Haro carded a 72 Monday to lead Central Union High's boys golf team to a 318-341 win over Eastlake in an 18-hole match at Eastlake Country Club.

Mario Luna shot 79, Bo Carson hit 83 and Chris Robb added 84.

The Spartans (3-3) open league play with a 1 p.m. Wednesday at Palo Verde Country Club in Blythe, facing Palo Verde, Southwest, Brawley and Calexico.

Boys tennis

Brawley 12, Coachella 6

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High tennis team won its second match of the year with a 12-6 victory over Coachella here Monday.

Brawley got eight points from its doubles, led by the No. 2 team of Jacob Amidon and John Martinez and the No. 3 pair of Tim Hansen and Chris Encell, who each won three sets. The No. 1 duo of Grant Elmore and Ethan Gibson won two sets for the Wildcats (2-3).

No. 1 singles player Sutton Morgan picked up the only singles point for Brawley. Coachella did not compete with a full squad, giving the Wildcats three points by default.

Brawley hosts Southwest at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.


Calipatria 13,

Borrego Springs 3, 6 innings

BORREGO SPRINGS — The Calipatria High softball team kicked off Citrus League play here Monday with a 13-3 victory over Borrego Springs in six innings.

Picking up the win for Calipatria was Sara Erickson, who pitched a complete game, striking out five.

Leading the Hornet offense were Griselda Aceves, who went 4-for-4 with a run and Natalie Linderos, who went 3-for-4 with a run.

Calipatria (3-3 overall) hosts Julian at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.
