I wish to correct an error that was made in your fine March 11 article about Nicholas Ellis' death.
Nick was not a former Calexico resident but rather a former Brawley resident. His older brother, Leo, lived in Calexico, but Nick and his parents and other brothers lived on North Imperial Avenue just south of Barbara Worth School, which he attended. He graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1938 after having lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball for four years, a record that I imagine still stands.
Nick was also a great softball hitter and pitcher and golfer and minor league baseball pitcher. He was truly an outstanding all-around athlete. I know because I went to grammar and high school with him.
