Your editorial of March 7 said, regarding the money that was spent on various elections, "Can it (money) buy an election? That question could have been posed in regard to many local elections settled Tuesday, but nowhere was the influence of big money clearer than in the Measure B referendum in Calexico." (the one about possible Wal-Mart expansion.)
I'd have to disagree. Money was far more influential in the Bonnie Garcia election than it was with the Wal-Mart Measure B. There is no doubt that the money that state Sen. Jim Battin was able to coerce out of his fellow Republicans from all over the state is what bought Bonnie Garcia's election. One only has to look at the list of donors and it's easy to see her support was not local, nor did it come from Coachella Valley donors. She's been bought, paid for and managed. She'll be a real puppet.
