PALOMAR — The Imperial Valley College women's softball team fell to host Palomar College on Wednesday 8-0.

Olga Noris went two-for-two and Heather Aguilar was one-for-two.

The Arabs (13-10 overall, 4-4 Pacific Coast Conference) host Southwestern at 3 today.

Boys tennis

Southwest 17, Brawley 1

Southwest High's boys tennis team swept the singles matches Wednesday in a 17-1 non-league win over Brawley Union High.

Timm Walter played No. 1 singles for Southwest and won his three sets 6-0, 6-1, 6-1. Eagles' No. 2 singles netter Michael Palacio went 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. Southwest's third singles player, John Bonano, won 6-2, 6-0, 6-0. Nick Mendoza played No. 1 singles for Brawley, Tim Hansen was No. 2 and Enrique Sanchez was No. 3.

Greg and Randy Lyon played No. 1 doubles for Southwest and won 6-3, 6-0, 6-0. Bobby Romero and Jared Kaye were No. 2 doubles for the Eagles and scored 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Chris Thomas and Neil Stickles played No. 3 doubles for Southwest and posted 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 scores.


Southwest (5-0) plays at 3:15 p.m. Friday at Desert Hot Springs. Brawley plays at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Cibola.

INDIO — Arturo Contreras won the 1,600 for Brawley Union High's boys track and field team (0-1), which lost to host Indio on Wednesday 90-37.

Contreras timed 4 minutes, 54.7 seconds.

Sergio Loya won the 300 hurdles (44.4) and Marco Stories won the 200 (23.09).

Cynthia Flores won two events for the Wildcat girls (0-1) in a 78-50 loss to Indio. She captured the discus with a mark of 106 feet, 11 inches and the shot put with a 34-5.

Meg Allen won the 3,200 (12:53) and Whitney Williams won the 200 (28.7) for Brawley.

Brawley hosts Southwest at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Boys golf

Central 314, Palo Verde 324, Southwest 331, Brawley 340, Calexico 420

BLYTHE — Ivan Haro shot an even-par 73 at the Palo Verde Country Club on Wednesday to lead Central Union High's boys golf team to victory in the first Imperial Valley League match of the season.

Central finished 18 holes with a 314, followed by Palo Verde (324), Southwest (331), Brawley (340) and Calexico (420).

Also scoring for Central were Mario Luna (77), Bo Carson (82) and Chris Robb (82).

Trevor Tagg shot a 78 for Southwest, Bobby Kirby carded an 81 and Ty Yturralde and Tyler Douthitt each added 86.

Garret Fargo and Michael Quick both shot 81 for Brawley, Ryan Mamer hit 86 and Adam Schmitt added 92.

Central (7-3 overall) competes March 28 in the Tribute for youth tournament in Palm Springs. Southwest (7-3) hosts Yuma Catholic at 2 p.m. Monday at Barbara Worth Golf Resort near Holtville. Brawley (5-9) hosts Steele Canyon at 1:30 today. Calexico (1-4) plays at 1 today at Holtville.
