Grammy-winning pianist George Winston was in concert in Brawley on Feb. 27 to benefit the Imperial Valley Food Bank. He gave a remarkable performance of a mix of blues, jazz and stride piano, as well as guitar and harmonica renditions. One piano piece in particular was played with such speed, I could hardly believe human hands could do it.
Beyond the music he kindly and beautifully shared, he generously donated all the proceeds of sales of CDs and videos that night to the Imperial Valley Food Bank. His is one of the largest contributions we have received in the last year. We are very grateful to him for his unsolicited generosity.
The Imperial Valley Food Bank executive board is also grateful to those who attended the concert and purchased the CDs and videos. Their support that night and throughout the years help us serve the hungry and needy of our valley.
