>>50 years ago — The Calexico Winter Association prepared to present the first of two showings of the International Cavalcade pageant with activities scheduled to begin at 8 tonight at the pageant ground, two miles west of Calexico on Highway 98.

>>40 years ago — Plans to construct a modern and efficient cotton compress warehousing facility in the Valley were announced by Calcot, Ltd. The warehouse will be two miles north of Imperial on Highway 99.

>>30 years ago — A small section of moon rock — 44.6 grams, to be exact — arrived for a two-day exhibition in Mexicali under the combined cooperation of the U.S. Public Information Service and the Mexican government.

>>20 years ago — An estimated 12,000 to 15,000 spectators turned out Sunday afternoon to witness the Navy's Blue Angels team mark the start of its 1982 show season and the conclusion of the flight team's 16th winter training season in the Valley. The occasion was the annual air show and open house at El Centro Naval Air Facility.
