El Centro police arrested a 48-year-old man Thursday for allegedly using illegal drugs in front of his 14-year-old son.

Police Lt. Tim Blankenship said police arrested Pablo Avila Valenzuela on suspicion of willful cruelty to a child and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Blankenship said officers were dispatched to a home in the 1400 block of North Imperial Avenue at 5:29 p.m. after a juvenile called police to report someone was using illegal drugs in his residence.

When police arrived they arrested Valenzuela.

Blankenship wasn't sure if the 14-year-old son was the one who called police.

Valenzuela remained in the county jail this morning with bail set at $35,000.

The teen was taken to the Betty Jo McNeece Receiving Home.
