MORENO VALLEY — The Imperial Valley Eclipse 12 & under traveling softball team went 2-1 over the weekend in a series of games in Moreno Valley. The Eclipse defeated the San Diego Renegades and Mira Loma Mustangs before losing to the SoCal Thunder 3-2.

The team, managed by Richard Corpuz, is comprised of players from El Centro, Brawley and Holtville. This weekend the team will travel to Upland to face American Pastime, last year's national champions.

Cru 17 & under basketball

COACHELLA VALLEY — The Imperial Valley Cru 17 & under traveling basketball team defeated the Coachella Boys & Girls Club 49-26.

Robert Christensen led the Cru with 10 points and nine rebounds. Dustin Loop had six points, Cain Lopez sank five and Tusane Ginger and Mike Garcia both added four points.


Junior Olympics swimming

POWAY — El Centro's Stevie Wills, 12, a member of Imperial Valley Desert Aquatics, placed sixth in the 11-12 age girls 100-yard backstroke at the San Diego-Imperial Short Course Junior Olympic Swimming Championships.

Wills qualified for the finals by placing eighth in the preliminaries with a time of 1 minute, 18.01 seconds. In the finals she swam a personal best 1:16.16.

Wills placed 10th in the 50-yard breaststroke with a personal best of 36.68. She was 13th in the 100-yard individual medley with a 1:10.45.

Imperial Valley BMX

SEELEY — Walter Keaton did well in two different age division races in the Imperial Valley BMX weekly race last Saturday night.

Competing in a state qualifying race, Keaton won the 11-12 age open race and then he placed second in the 15-year-old expert race.

Erika Short also went up age divisions successfully. She won the 26-30 age girls cruiser flight and placed second in the girls age 12 event. There were 215 riders for the double-points event.
