Brawley girl swimmers improve to 5-0

ESCONDIDO — The Brawley Union High boys and girls swim teams split their meet with Escondido High here Friday.

The Wildcat girls downed Escondido 90-80 while the Brawley boys fell 97-67.

Leading the Wildcat girls (5-0) were Jennifer Cardenas and Brooke Pace each with two individual victories and two relay wins.

Cardenas won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 11.64 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.92.

Pace won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:01.92 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.13.

The two teamed with Stephanie Luckey and Lauren Roberts to take the 200-yard medley relay in 2:04.27.

Pace and Roberts hooked up with Tracey King and Natalia Cardenas to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:52.69.

Jennifer Cardenas, her sister Natalia Cardenas, King and Marianne Wenzel combined to take the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:08.88.

Brawley's other individual win came from Roberts in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.94.

On the boys side, Norwegian exchange student Petter Malvik won two individual events, the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.25 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.25 for Brawley (3-1-1).


He teamed with Ethan Schoch, Robbie Overstreet and Trevor Smith to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.02.

Schoch won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.34.

Brawley hosts Southwest at 4 p.m. Thursday.


Brawley 193, Imperial 217

BRAWLEY — Taylor Smith shot a 40 to lead the Brawley Union High golf team to a 193-217 victory over Imperial at the Del Rio Country Club here Friday.

Steven Gibson shot a 45 for Brawley, followed by William Owen with a 50 and Eric Elmore and Will Torrez both with 58s.

Brawley will host El Capitan at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
