Three young El Centro residents decided to party on well after the party was over in the early hours of Saturday morning — and the result is estimated at $100,000 in damage to motor vehicles and buildings in the 1600 block of South Fifth Street in El Centro.

According to Sgt. Jerrold Novak of the El Centro Police Department, a young male and two female juveniles attending a party in the vicinity of Sixth Street and Smoketree Drive in El Centro decided when leaving the party around 2:30 a.m. Saturday to take another party-goer's car without permission.

With the young male at the wheel, the green Dodge Neon careened down the alley behind houses on Fifth Street, causing extensive damage to parked cars and storage buildings facing the alley.

In the vicinity of the 1200 block of Fifth Street, the two female occupants fled the vehicle when it stopped momentarily. They were apprehended later at the home of one in El Centro and booked into juvenile hall.

The driver continued to drive down the alley until he wrecked the car. He then fled on foot.

Novak says police think they have identified the suspect and were seeking his arrest Saturday.
