A 26-year-old El Centro man was arrested Saturday for allegedly possessing 22 pounds of methamphetamine for the purpose of sales.

Arrested was Guillermo Ramirez, who was booked into the county jail with bail set at $500,000. He remained in custody this morning.

According to a county Sheriff's Office log, the arresting agency was the county Narcotic Task Force.

Ramirez was booked into the county jail at 10:22 p.m. after his arrest was made in the early afternoon, although details on the time of his arrest were unavailable this morning.

The sheriff's log indicated the arrest was made on Interstate 8 near Fourth Street. A U.S. Border Patrol canine unit aided in the drug find, said NTF Cmdr. David Forrester.

Ramirez was booked into the county jail on suspicion of transporting a controlled substance for the purpose of sales.

More information on the case was expected to be available later today from NTF officials.
