The Imperial County Department of Social Services is proposing a $451,115 contract with the Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program to manage transportation costs for 406 eligible participants, county documents state.

The proposal is in response to a state mandate that county social service departments provide transportation services for welfare-to-work participants.

The department will ask the county Board of Supervisors to approve the one-year contract with IVROP at its meeting Tuesday.

The board also will consider $1.7 million in Workforce Investment Board contracts to Imperial Valley College, IVROP and Campesinos Unidos Inc.

The board also is scheduled to:

· discuss a request from The Wildlands Conservancy to purchase about 70,000 acres of private railroad grant land in the county from Catellus Development Corp., and turn it over to the U.S. Department of the Interior;

· as the county Air Pollution Control District Board, consider a $10,000 maintenance contract for district monitoring stations;

· discuss approving $64,950 to remodel county offices at 801 Broadway in El Centro for alcohol and drug rehabilitation crisis services;

· approve $6,000 for the county to participate in the 2002 California State Fair;
