Speakers lined up for IIDCAC water forum

Speakers for a water issues forum on Wednesday are lined up.

The forum is being sponsored by the Imperial Irrigation District community advisory commission. The topics range from the environment to economics.

The forum will start at 5:30 p.m. in the William R. Condit Auditorium, 1285 Broadway, El Centro.

Topics and speakers include:

· State and federal situation: Robert Johnson, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation regional director.

· Regional water realities: Daniel E. Farris, Coachella Valley Water District assistant director of engineering, and Dennis Underwood, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California vice president for Colorado River resources.

· IID/San Diego County Water Authority water transfer: Elston Grubaugh, IID resources and planning manager, and Maureen Stapleton, SDCWA general manager.


· Environmental issues: Kim Delfino, Defenders of Wildlife director, and Karen Douglas, Planning and Conservation League natural resources director.

· Economic issues: Larry Grogan, El Centro mayor and businessman; Larry Bratton, El Centro businessman; Norm Niver, West Shores Chamber of Commerce president and Imperial County planning commissioner; Larry Gilbert, Imperial-area farmer; and a speaker for the San Diego Chamber of Commerce.

Each speaker will be allotted 10 minutes.

IID Division 1 Director Andy Horne will give an introduction.

Dilda McFadden, CAC member, will be the moderator.

There will be simultaneous translation into Spanish through the use of headsets. A limited number will be available.

Questions will be allowed at the end of the forum.
