Voice: Santillan did well to get someone to do his bidding

March 27, 2002

I am responding to Daniel Santillan's letter of Sunday. Mr. Santillan, I am not paranoid. I fear nothing, except, perhaps, my vegetarian daughter jumping on my case whenever I eat meat.

David Boniface and I are, by the way, not in league or associates. My only connection with him is that I enjoyed his children as both students and athletes.

You say you feel someone from the San Diego State University administration should have come to the defense of the young lady who ostensibly came into my classroom to register voters but instead stumped for your various causes. State's administration is smart. Why should they dirty themselves in this idiotic conflict? Doesn't their action tell you something? Hel-lo?

Speaking of which, I will no longer respond to any more of your letters in this paper. An old saw goes, "If you rassle with a pig, not only will you get muddy, but the pig likes it." No doubt you and others of your ilk will write back to explain to everyone what I really meant by that.

By the way, your account of what occurred in my classroom is again, sadly wrong, but I have finally figured out that facts are simply not in your repertoire and, therefore, useful dialogue with you is futile.

Finally, it is gratifying you at last found someone to write your letters for you. The improvement was so great, I graded it and have awarded you an "A".
