Central tops Valley golfers


PALM SPRINGS — The Brawley Union, Central Union and Southwest high boys golf teams wrapped up play in the Tribute to Youth Tournament here Thursday with Central taking 11th place followed by Brawley in 12th and Southwest in 13th.

Central shot a 262, followed by Brawley with a 267 and Southwest with a 283.

Leading Brawley were Garrett Fargo with an 88 followed by Michael Quick with an 89, Ryan Mamer with a 95 and Adam Schmitt with a 102.

Brawley will next play at Azusa on April 8 with a time yet to be determined. Southwest will next play at Brawley at 1 p.m. April 10 and Central will play at Borrego Springs at 1 p.m. April 11.


Holtville 174, Imperial 211

HOLTVILLE — The Holtville High boys golf team improved to 9-4 with a 174-211 victory over Imperial at the Barbara Worth Golf Resort here Thursday.

Medalist for Holtville was Steven Hawk, who shot a 41, followed by Caleb Sandin with a 42 and Colby Drye with a 45. Kyle Goodsell rounded out things for Holtville with a 46.

Leading Imperial was Lance Havens with a 50, followed by Brody Jackson with a 51, Damien McCullough with a 54 and Shawn Gutierrez with a 56.

The Vikings play at Borrego Springs at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
