CALEXICO — Police here were searching for a suspect this morning who allegedly robbed a clinic at gunpoint.

Calexico police Lt. Jim Neujahr said police were searching for a man described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, Hispanic, 25 to 30 years old, wearing black pants and a black windbreaker.

The man is alleged to have robbed the El Centro Regional Medical Clinic at 2451 Rockwood Ave. at gunpoint.

Neujahr said police dispatch received a call from a clinic employee around 8:30 this morning stating a man with a gun was robbing the clinic. Neujahr said police quickly responded but barely missed the gunman.

The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot west toward Highway 111. Police searched the area and had not found the man as of presstime this morning.

Neujahr said police requested assistance from the canine unit from the U.S. Border Patrol.

Neujahr added the man had grease smeared across his face to use as a type of mask.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how much money the robber took. No one was injured in the incident.

Police are encouraging witnesses to call the Calexico Police Department at 768-2140.
