Hannon, Valle place first for Desert Aquatics


Several Imperial Valley Desert Aquatics swimmers came home with top placements in the Heartland Swim Association's Junior Olympic Max Meet at El Cajon.

Brawley's Ali Hannon, 9, won the girls 9-10 age 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 43.09 seconds. That was fast enough to qualify for this summer's Junior Olympics.

Imperial's Erika Valle, 15, won the girls 13 and over 50 freestyle in 28.23. She took third in the 100 backstroke (1:16.62), fifth in the 100 free (1:03.44) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:18.18).


Seeley's Kacie Rodvil, 10, placed second in the girls 9-10 age 200 free (2:51.18) and 100 fly (1:30.46). She was third in the 50 fly (39.11) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (3:14.6).

Brawley's Julia Hannon, 11, placed second in the girls 11-12 50 fly (34.94) and 100 free (1:07), third in the 100 IM (1:14.81) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:42.77).

Cru basketball

The El Centro Cru (3-1 season) 17-and-under basketball team split two games last weekend.

The Cru lost to the 18-and-under Runnin' Rebels from National City 64-53. Vincent McSee led the Cru with 24 points.

The Cru defeated the 17-and-under Copley YMCA 58-53. Tusane Ginger had 12 points, Andrew Grooms tallied nine and Michael Garcia had four points and nine rebounds.

Eclipse softball

The Imperial Valley Eclipse 12-and-under traveling softball team went 1-2 in a tournament last weekend in Upland.

The Eclipse defeated the Norco Fillys and lost to American Pastime and the Cypress Athletics.

The Eclipse compete April 6-7 in Cardiff-By-The-Sea in a Triple Crown qualifier.
