CALIPATRIA — Police here arrested a 28-year-old man for injuring two minors by allegedly throwing unopened beer cans at the teens for no apparent reason.

Calipatria Police Chief Reggie Gomez said police arrested Rogelio Casarez Cortez about 7 p.m. Monday for hitting a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl with unopened beer cans. He added Cortez was intoxicated.

Gomez said Cortez was arrested for two counts of battery.

Cortez, for no apparent reason, allegedly started throwing the beer cans at the youths, who are brother and sister and were playing in their front lawn in their residence in the 400 block of North Brown Street.

Police arrived just as Cortez was trying to flee. Cortez was able to "stumble" for about a block before police caught him, said Gomez.
